Leica M11 Monochrom
The Leica M11 Monochrom is the fourth camera in the M Monochrom series, introduced in 2023, and it features a higher resolution compared to the M10 Monochrom346.
A new base that enhances weather sealing and overall durability, along with a durable black paint option that has a grippy finish. The aluminum top plate reduces the camera's weight, while a highly scratch-resistant sapphire crystal LCD cover ensures durability346.
The camera includes three new programmable function buttons (Fn, top plate, and thumbwheel) and a new battery with a CIPA standard of 700 shots, along with 256GB of very fast internal memory. It is powered by a brand new and faster Maestro III processor and boasts a monochrome 60MP BSI CMOS sensor that provides excellent dynamic range. Full-time off-sensor metering enhances accuracy without extra shutter lag, and an electronic shutter allows exposures of up to 1/16000 sec346.
Additional features include USB-C charging capability, PTP and Apple MFi ("Made for iPhone/iPod/iPad") connectivity through the USB-C port, and direct connection to Lightroom via a USB-C cable. The improved FOTOS app offers enhanced filtering options, tethering capability, and geotagging features346.
The camera also features a well-constructed electronic viewfinder (EVF) that delivers a larger and brighter image, along with an LCD display that has double the pixel count compared to M10. Both the EVF and LCD include image stabilization, although this does not apply to the sensor. Other improvements include a combined quick menu and status screen, an updated menu system for better compatibility with uncoded M lenses, and a digital zoom mode that offers framelines for 1.3x and 1.8x crops. Users can choose from variable DNG sizes (18.4MB, 36.5MB, and 60.3MB), and the unobtrusive design lacks the traditional red dot or logo. Finally, the absence of a Bayer color filter enhances noise performance, ISO sensitivity, and monochrome tonality346.
