Leica M6 Reissue of 2022
- Introduced in 2022341
- At the Oskar Barnack Award Ceremony on October 20, 2022, Leica announced the reissue of the Leica M6341.
- The new camera is a replica of the 1984 version of the M6, complete with the iconic Leitz red dot and the engraving on the top plate. The shutter speed dial is identical to that of the original camera. It's important to note that when switching the shutter speed to 'B', the meter also turns off341.
- Like the original M6, the new version operates purely mechanically, allowing all shutter speeds to function without a battery; only the meter requires power341.
- While the original camera featured a die-cast zinc top and a brass bottom plate, the new M6 is crafted from a solid brass billet. The new body weighs slightly more, coming in at 575 grams341.
- The finish of the new M6 differs from its predecessor. It utilizes a shinier version of the black paint found on the M11, which is exceptionally durable. The leatherette covering is also the same as that of the M11341.
- The M6 is equipped with the latest version of the 0.72 rangefinder, which appears to be identical to that in the M11. This version features slightly rounded ends on both the frameline "sticks" and the rangefinder patch, contrasting with the squared edges found on the MP and M10 models341.
- The TTL metering lights on the M6 are different from those on any previous M cameras. Unlike the original M6, the new model has a confirmation dot positioned between the ">" and "<" symbols. However, unlike the MP, the "<>" symbols are slightly rounded341.
- many parts have been carefully redesigned, which should eventually expedite manufacturing for the M-A and MP models341.
- All the glass surfaces in the rangefinder are now coated, and a third LED in the viewfinder indicates the correct exposure357.
